The Road to Sorority Recruitment: January

If you're a high school senior, it's neither too early nor too late to start thinking about sorority recruitment. It's very possible that you may not even know 100% of where you're going to college in the fall or even what you're going to major in. Now is the time to start preparations if you're considering joining a sorority, even more so if you're planning on going to a school with a competitive recruitment.

What should you be doing in January?

This early in the process, you should be thinking about why you want to join a sorority. Sorority membership takes up a lot of time, especially in during the first semester. If you're rushing as a freshman, you'll probably go to college sooner than your friends back at home. Many schools hold recruitment the week before school starts. Some people want to hold on to all the time they can get at home.

Are you planning on a major that traditionally are competitive and require lots of studying or projects? Engineering and nursing majors (among others) have large workloads, can you balance your time between studying and going to several new member events a week? Remember, as a new member most if not all events and meetings are required.

Also, start paying attention to what you post on social media. Be sure to post fun pictures of you and your friends. Also work on deleting any old posts, tweets, etc., that are full of drama or otherwise wouldn't promote a good feeling about you.

Be sure to follow Sorority Rush 101 on social media for tricks and tips on sorority recruitment and watch for our book coming out June 2016!
